Calgary and Colorado swap picks

The Calgary Flames were looking for the future of their franchise after GM Tomayko was re-hired. The first move was David Booth leaving the team. The younger scoring forward had no one to set him up; so, the Flames shopped him around and in return from Pittsburgh was 1BUF and cap-hit Miroslav Satan. Later on, "The Piece" was dealt away to another contendor in Washington with a 7th rounder for a 3rd this year and 2nd next.

During the offseason, Calgary dealt away UFA-to-be Rozsival to acquire more cash for the squad. Years from contending, Rozsival wanted to be moved from the Flames organization, and the Flames appreciate all he has done since becoming a Flame in GM Tomayko's first season with the squad. The Flames also moved down 3 spots in the entry draft with the additional 31st overall pick owned by Minnesota. Calgary has been actively shopping their 7th and 10th overall and had a few trades in place for draft day, but a new offer was placed on the table.

Today, the Flames and Avalanche struck a deal to ensure the Flames recieve Duchene/Tavares at the #2 spot and the Avalanche recieve both 7/10th overall in the draft tomorrow. The trade has conditional terms that if any BRHL'er knows the 100% history of our message boards, would likely know a hint of the conditional term.

Calgary will not move down from the #2 position this draft unless there is a ridiculous trade offer in return. Although it has been years in the making, tomorrow's draft begins the new era of Flames hockey.
